Avanti West Coast services to be nationalised from March 2027

The government has confirmed it will take control of Avanti West Coast's services from 7 March 2027, ending the current contract with the private operator. Planned Improvements

An extra £10 million will be invested in power and signalling maintenance by the end of 2027. This funding is in addition to an existing £840 million investment aimed at addressing infrastructure problems that cause approximately one-third of delays on the West Coast Main Line. Passengers can expect fewer delays and cancellations as a result of these upgrades.

Timetable amendments designed to create faster and more reliable services, particularly on routes in and out of Manchester, will start to be implemented from December 2026. Furthermore, Euston station will undergo significant upgrades with a £50 million investment planned over the next three years. An initial £11 million of this will be allocated to improving seating, waiting areas, and toilet facilities. Within the next year, passengers will be able to access trains further in advance of departure to ease boarding processes.
