Shepherd’s Bush Market rail bridge repainted in resident-chosen colours

The steel bridge that carries the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines over Uxbridge Road at Shepherd’s Bush Market is being repainted this week. The work began on 3 August and will continue until 7 August, running each day from 6 am to 7 pm.

Hammersmith & Fulham Council selected the new colour scheme, white, grey and teal, after consulting local residents. The council said the design was intended to complement the entrance gates of Shepherd’s Bush Market, a historic site in the area.

Traffic and access during the work

Uxbridge Road will remain open throughout the repainting. One lane between Frithville Gardens and Pennard Road will be closed, with temporary traffic lights managing two-way vehicle flow. Pedestrian access to Shepherd’s Bush Market station and nearby businesses will not be affected.

The repainting is part of a wider public realm programme along Uxbridge Road, where the council has been carrying out improvements over the past year. Hammersmith & Fulham Council described the bridge as a gateway to the area, which includes cultural venues such as Bush Hall and the Bush Theatre.

Call for station improvements

Cllr Zarar Qayyum, the council’s cabinet member for enterprise and skills, said the repainting was a step towards making the area more welcoming. He also called on Transport for London to address the condition of Shepherd’s Bush Market station, which he described as run-down.

The council has not specified what improvements it is seeking for the station. Transport for London has not responded to the request for comment.
