The Making of the Miniature

Transport for London proposes changes to A217 Swandon Way and Wandsworth Roundabout.
Sarsfield, based in Limerick, Ireland, began his miniature modelling hobby in February of this year. He was inspired to create the Ye Olde White Horse after one of the pub's owners, Niall, began following him on Instagram. Sarsfield described the pub as a 'beautiful old pub with real character', making it an ideal subject for his work.
The process involved meticulous measurement and scaling down the original structure. Sarsfield typically works at a 1:24 scale, meaning his models are 24 times smaller than the real-life buildings. He uses a variety of materials, including plywood, foam board, cardboard, and plastic, often repurposing items such as Barbie boxes for window acetate.
He hand-delivered the finished model to London to ensure its safety during transit. Sarsfield explained that he sized the model to fit under a plane seat for the flight from Ireland. The handover to the pub owners was a rewarding experience for the artist, who aims to achieve this satisfaction with each commission.
