The step-free upgrade, funded by the Department for Transport, is being managed by Network Rail with principal contractor BAM Nuttall. While the new footbridge and ramp are now accessible, four 16-person lifts have been installed and are currently undergoing testing. The project also includes the construction of two new station entrances, described as being of a substantial scale due to the station's elevated position on a steep slope. New CCTV, public address systems, customer information screens, a ticket vending machine, and Oyster card readers are also to be installed. The adjacent nature reserve will undergo restoration with replanting to support biodiversity.
Opening the new footbridge is a major milestone for the Hither Green Access for All programme, bringing us closer to step-free access across the station. I thank passengers and the local community for their patience as work continues.
