A.A.D. Lang’s wooden Tube wheels trialled in 1930 but never adopted

In 1930, A.A.D. Lang tested laminated wooden wheels on London Underground tracks after they survived 192 miles of running and machine-gun fire. Murray Griffiths, Underground director, praised their quietness, but no records confirm full adoption. Lang’s firm later moved into fairground rides.
