Lewes derailment closes Haywards Heath, Lewes line after 11 injured
A Southern service train derailed near Lewes on 13 August 2026, injuring 11 passengers and trapping about 150 on board. The Haywards Heath, Lewes line remains closed while specialist teams assess the train and track. Two passengers were seriously hurt.

WorldGTR reports 43% rise in boarding falls as airports brace for August peaks
Greater Thameslink Railway has recorded 93 incidents of passengers falling while boarding trains in 2026, a 43% increase on the same period last year. The operator has issued safety warnings ahead of Gatwick and Luton airports’ busiest days, with up to 68,500 passengers expected on 9 and 16 August.
